COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 4,1997 PSA#1923MICROFLUIDICS FOR CHEMICAL ANALYSIS Sandia National Laboratories has a
major program in developing and using microfluidics for chemical
analysis. We believe that these capabilities could contribute
significantly to DARPA's BAA 97-39 on microfluidic analysis and
associated design tools and, as a Federally Funded Research and
Development Center (FFRDC), we would like to offer these capabilities
to any and all potential partners in responding to that BAA. Specific
capabilities include novel methods for pumping and valving of fluids
over a greater range of fluid properties and with greater control than
current approaches; research and diagnostic techniques that include
direct, real-time imaging of the flow to optimize fluidic design and
flow parameters; continuum and monte-carlo fluid modeling for modeling
a variety of electric field driven flows; integrated micro-optics for
ultra-sensitive optical detection in conjunction with arrays of
microfluidic channels; and on-going work in the use of arrays of a
large number of parallel chromatographic channels for high specificity
detection with extremely low false alarm rates. Interested parties
should contact Dr. John Vitko, Jr. MS 9056, Sandia National
Laboratories, P.O. Box 969, Livermore, CA 94551-0969 (FAX:
510-294-2276; e-mail: john_vitko @sandia.gov). Deadline for response to
the BAA is September 19th. In order to respond to the BAA in a timely
and coordinated manner, we would like to have interested parties
contact Sandia by September 10, 1997. Please note that as an FFRDC we
are not able to enter into any exclusive collaborations in response to
this BAA, but instead must offer the same capabilities to any
potential partner interested in teaming. E-MAIL: Dr. John Vitko, Jr.,
