Naval Air Systems Command intends to issue a provisioning order under the existing LRIP contract N00019-96-C-0054 to provide for the design, fabrication and implementation of a compaction tool for Rotor Spar Torque Wraps to be used in the production of the V-22 aircraft. It is anticipated that the implementation and utilization of this tool will improve manufacturing repeatability and quality resulting from the incorporation of a separate, solid, one-piece lay-up and compaction tool in place of the current method and tooling. The V-22 is currently under low-rate-initial production (LRIP) with Bell-Boeing under contract N00019-96-C-0054. Only Bell-Boeing has data and expertise to perform this design, fabrication and implementation effort. It is anticipated that award of this order will occur in February 1998. See Note No. 22. (0247)
