E-MAIL: Stacy L. Mcdaniel, smcdanie@ems.jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a T-38A/N escape system upgrade. The escape system will be installed and flown in NASA's T-38N and T-38A aircraft. The T-38N aircraft is a highly modified T-38 aircraft used for astronaut space flight readiness training, low lift-to-drag (L/D) approaches, aerobatics, formation flying, chase for flight-test projects, and to support research and experimental flight tests generated by NASA requirements and priority logistics programs. The T-38A is the standard Air Force trainer aircraft. The contractor shall provide an improved escape system for the T-38A/N aircraft that meets the purpose of the contract and the requirements stated in the System Requirements Document (SRD). The T-38A/N escape system shall consist of two independent ejection seats, one for the front and one for the rear, and all the associated hardware required to meet the requirements stated in the SRD. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR PART 12. The anticipated release date of RFP 9-BL2-04-7-09P is on or around October 1997 with an anticipated proposal due date on or around November 1997. A draft version of the RFP is being released with this synopsis and is available on the Internet at the URL referenced below. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See Note "B".
