The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Patuxent River, MD proposes to acquire one prototype unit of the AN/USH-42(D) digital tape recorder for evaluation and integration. The current Government owned AN/USH-42 analog recorder will incorporate the digital recorder, while maintaining the required interfaces with existing systems. A firm-fixed price contract is being contemplated. This action will be negotiated on a sole source basis with DRS Precision Echo, Inc. under the statutory authority of FAR 6.302-1 (only one responsible source and no other services will satisfy agency requirements) as this unit embodies a proprietary design exclusive to DRS Precision Echo, Inc. DRS Precision Echo, Inc. has the proprietary rights to the Level III drawings and lists for the AN/USH42 recorder and interface. Minor modifications will be made to the USH-42-(D) configuration in order to conform with the needs of specific Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) aircraft.
