The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a one-year maintenance agreement, with two, one-year options, for a Philips CM30 Electron Microscope and a Stem CM30 scanning attachment. All maintenance shall be performed at the NIST site in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The stem attachment shall include the same maintenance provisions as the main instrument. The maintenance agreement shall include unlimited emergency visits during regular business hours and routine preventative maintenance calls. In accordance with FAR 13.602, it is the intent of the Government to negotiate only with Philips Electron Optics-FGI Company of Mahwah, New Jersey, as the only reasonable source able to satisfy the needs of the Government. Philips is the manufacturer of the above referenced equipment, and is the only source with knowledge and applicable replacement parts, able to perform the required maintenance. It is the Government's intent to issue a firm, fixed price purchase order for this requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however all quotes received by the response date of 12/2/97 will be considered by the government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No solicitation package is available. This requirement is contingent upon the availability of funding. (0323)
