(202)366-0125 The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has a
requirement for a 30 month effort to provide technical and engineering
support for its Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) research and
development program. The objective of this proposed effort is to ensure
that the technologies delivered by FHWA's NDE research and development
program are ready for implementation and deployment and to provide
guidance and technical assistance in the application of new and
existing nondestructive evaluation technologies. The contractor
selected for this effort will perform laboratory and field evaluation
of prototype systems delivered through FHWA sponsored research projects
as well as new technologies developed by industry and others. The work
under this effort will also include incremental development to improve
or correct system deficiencies identified through the test and
evaluation projects. A broad range of technologies will be tested,
evaluated and improved including ultrasonics, magnetics, radar,
thermography, laser systems, and vibrational systems. The scale of
application of these technologies range from detection and
characterization of small local defects, such as cracks less than 1 mm
in depth, to entire bridge structures. Interested parties may obtain
