COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 17,1998 PSA#2033U.S.A. PAVILION AND CATALOG SHOWCASE AT CHINA COMPUTERWORLD, SEPT.
8-11, 1998 -The U.S. Department of Commerce is inviting U.S. firms to
participate in China Computerworld Expo 98, one of this country's
largest computer trade shows, taking place in Beijing from September
8-11, 1998. Over 20 U.S. computer hardware, software, and networking
companies are expected to participate in the USA Video/Catalog
Showcase, with several more exhibiting in the USA Pavilion. The USA
Video/Catalog Showcase is a low-cost way for a company to introduce its
products to potential agents, distributors, dealers, joint-venture
partners and buyers. Department of Commerce industry specialists will
be at the show in Sydney to represent companies, hand out product
literature, and provide lists of customized trade leads for
participants. U.S. companies interested in participating in China
Computerworld Expo 98 may reserve individual booth space as exhibitors
in the USA Pavilion and take advantage of the significant publicity
and attention this official U.S. Government event will generate. China
is the world's fastest growing major computer market. Demand for
computer hardware, software, networking equipment, and information
services has increased over 54 percent annually from $848 million in
1990 to $7.4 billion in 1995. China's Ministry of Electronics Industry
(MEI) conservatively predicts that the computer market will exceed $24
billion by 2000. PC sales, in particular, are growing rapidly and
totaled more than $3.4 billion in 1996, 58 percent over 1995. China's
software demand has been increasing at double-digit rates and is
expected to continue this growth into the next century. American
software products are the industry standard and are highly regarded for
their quality and technical superiority. U.S. firms control over 85% of
this market. China's growing interest in the Internet should also have
a tremendous impact on networking and software sales in the financial,
business, home, and government markets. China Computerworld Expo 98 is
an excellent way for U.S. companies to gain substantial market
exposure and obtain valuable trade leads that will generate future
business. The show organizer, InfoEx-World Services, expects more than
200,000 visitors from all over China and neighboring countries, and
exhibitors from around the world. Major U.S. suppliers participating in
last year's event included Cisco, 3COM, IBM, and Sun Microsystems. For
