OF COMMERCE TO LEAD ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES TRADE MISSION TO SPAIN
AND PORTUGAL -- SUMMER 1998 Washington, D.C. -- (February 9, 1998) --
The U.S. Department of Commerce's Environmental Technologies Exports
Office is sponsoring an environmental technologies trade mission to
Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon from June 25 -- July 3, 1998.
Participating U.S. companies will meet with Spanish and Portuguese
environmental industry executives selected by the U.S. Department of
Commerce for their specific environmental equipment and services needs.
In order to meet European Union standards, an estimated $8.5 billion
will be spent on environmental improvements over the next five years on
the Iberian peninsula, where U.S. companies already are held in high
regard. In 1996, U.S. exports to Spain were $1.4 billion, 36 percentof
the total environmental technologies import market. To Portugal, U.S.
environmental technologies exports were $333 million, 12 percent of
its environmental technologies import market. This trade mission offers
the following services for assistance in entering these burgeoning
markets: Prescreened appointments with buyers of environmental
technologies Marketability assessment of technology or service
Briefings by experts on conducting business in Spain and Portugal Local
publicity of products and services Specific market research on
environmental technologies and services Logistical support Meeting
space, hospitality and interpreter services By joint venturing with
Spanish and/or Portuguese firms, U.S. companies can also become
partners in projects eligible for local funding and generous European
Union grants; and at the same time gain easier access to other European
and African markets. The participation fee is: $3,000. Contact Anne
Novak for details. Phone; (202) 482-8178, fax; (202) 501-7909 Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0485 19980217\SP-0005.MSC)
