Flight Test Center (AFFTC), Edwards AFB, CA has a requirement for a
study to determine optimization criteria and techniques for Data Cycle
Maps (DCM). Telemetering of data from test vehicles to support
stations and recording of data on test vehicles is required in many DoD
test and training missions. The test and training communities have seen
significant and continuing increases in both telemetry and data
recording requirements as well as reduction of available telemetry
spectrum. These increases create major test and training cost and
schedule impacts to major weapons system programs. DCMs describe the
formats used for sending and recording data. A recent study indicates
that current DCMs are less then optimal. Techniques for optimizing DCMs
would thus directly benefit test and training missions by allowing
minimal use of telemetry spectrum and by allowing efficient use of data
recording media. Although the major optimization criterion for DCMs is
the minimization of bits that do not carry information, there may be
other criteria as well. The proposed study shall provide: 1) an
identification and discussion of DCM optimization criteria, 2)
algorithmic techniques for meeting these criteria, and 3) prototype
software for implementing these techniques. Study duration is estimated
at nine (9) months. Questions referencing technical information should
be referred to Charles Irving -- Advanced Radar Telemetry (ARTM)
Program Office at (805) 275-4055. This information is for planning
purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for proposal. The
Government does not intend to pay for any information provided in
response to this synopsis. Telephone requests to be placed on the
mailing list will not be accepted. Numbered Notes 22, 25, and 26 apply
