Caywood, 606/281-3958 Services of A/E firm specializing in the surgical
environment of a healthcare setting to investigate, design, prepare bid
documents, & provide construction period services for Project 596-305,
Establish Ambulatory Surgery, Ph 1(C), VA Medical Center, Cooper Drive
Division, Lexington, KY. A variety of disciplines will be required.
Project includes space programming and schematic design of two wings of
existing 6th floor (6 North & 6 West), 22,500 GSF. Project involves
identification of the types, quantities, and procedures involved with
the surgical process as required for layout of a fully operational
surgical suite. Design development phase will complete the physical
layout of the two wings, identifying sizes and locations of discrete
spaces, identifying elements such as flow of patients, staff, supplies,
storage of supplies, controlled sterile areas, as well as investigation
of utility requirements and time frame for utility changes during
construction phases. The construction document phase will be required
for 6th floor, North wing only (13,000 GSF). Currently, the following
functions are on the 6th floor, North wing: Surgical ICU (construction
underway to relocate this unit to 6th floor, South wing), Recovery
Room, Urology Suite, clinical offices. Currently, the following
functions are on the 6th floor, West wing: six operating rooms; sterile
inner corridor; sterile and public outer corridor; equipment storage;
supplies storage; lockers, lounge & shower areas; anesthesiology work
room; pathological frozen section room; clinical offices. Estimated
construction cost range between $2,000,000 and $5,000,000. Project
drawings will be required in the AutoCAD format compatible with VA
AutoCAD system, currently Release 13. Firms with required
specialization located within a 250 mile radius of Lexington, KY who
can show a successful history with similar projects in a healthcare
surgical setting are encouraged to submit qualifications on SF's 254
and 255 no later than COB May 29, 1998. With reference to the Small
Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program, solicitation is
