Facilities Service Office is pre-qualifying contractors for serveral
repair and alteration, renovation, and new construction projects in New
Hampshire. These projects have an estimated construction cost in the
range of $1.0 to $2.0 million. The pre-qualification will be for a
period of one year from the official selection date. The Windsor FSO
currently has several designs in process for the following projects
which are a representative sample of the type of work to be solicited
under this pre-qualification process. 1)Portsmouth, NH Main Post Office
-- The USPS is designing a new Postal Retail lobby for the subject
facility. The work will include new HVAC, electrical systems, interior
finishes, ceilings, lights, floors, walls, installation of
USPS-furnished equipment, approximately 14,000 square feet of floor
space within the MPO and the estimated construction cost will be in the
neighborhood of $1.2 to $1.6 million. 2)Salem, NH Main Post Office --
The USPS is designing a 16,000 square foot expansion of the Salem, NH
MPO to accommodate a new retail lobby unit and the renovation of the
workroom area. The scope of work for the lobby will be the same as that
for the Portsmouth MPO. The interior workroom renovations will consist
of new lighting and ceilings plus interior renovations to the various
support areas. The estimated construction cost for all this work will
be in the neighborhood of $1.6 million. 3)Milford, NH Main Post Office
-- The USPS is going to build a new 7,000 square foot free-standing
building to serve as a carrier annex for the town of Milford and the
surrounding areas. The building will be located on USPS-owned property.
The building will be of wood-frame construction and there will be a
small retail unit in the front of the facility. However, most of the
interior space will be dedicated to workroom and support spaces. The
building will also contain closed circuit television equipment. There
will be minimal site work, and no work on wetlandsor contaminated
property is anticipated. The estimated cost for this project is
approximately $1.1 million. The design for all three of these projects
will be completed before July of 1998. Contractors will be evaluated
by a committee of USPS Architects and Engineers and rated on the
following factors in descending ofder: 1) Project Management; 2)
Similar Construction Experience; 3) Financial Capability; 4) Company
Organization; 5)Quality Assurance/Quality Contral Program. A full
explanation of these categories can be found in the pre-qualification
package. There is no pre-determined number of pre-qualified contractors
for this solicitation. The USPS will select those contractors who it
feels are the "best qualified" for these projects. The USPS reserves
the right to limit the number of construction awards to a pre-qualified
contractor depending upon the capacity of the firm and regardless of
