66 -- DROP TESTING MACHINE SOL DAAE30-98-Q-1101 DUE 060398 POC JUDY SZABO, CONTRACTING OFFICER, (973) 724-5373 WEB: US ARMY TACOM-ARDEC Procurement Network, http://procnet.pica.army.mil/procacts.htm. E-MAIL: Judy Szabo, jszabo@pica.army.mil. 66 -- Custom designed and engineered precision free fall drop tester (Model: AD-500-96) designed for testing a myriad of packaging containers and/or products in varying configurations, sequences, and orientations (corner, edge, flat, end, and at various angled positions accurate and repeatable impacts) weighing up to 500 lbs. from 0 inches up to 96 inches. The unit will mechanically lift the test objects throughout the entire 0-96" drop range eliminating the need for personnel to lift heavy loads and the drops may be initiated from a safe and/or remote distance. The 96" drop height and an expanded impact area is specially needed to meet ARDEC R&D requirements. To ensure accurate performance of the modified drop tester, a redesign of the entire shock absorbing system in the base of the drop tester must be implemented to minimize rebounding of the package support tines as they impact the base plate assembly. In addition, the tine assembly, which is accelerated downward, must be modified to ensure as friction free a drop as possible as it travels to impact within the base plate. The system will be designed to meet or exceed MILSPECS, DOT and Federal Test Standards. Component information is as follows: Part No. AD 50096-01 -- Hydraulic hoist system with tine assembly, drop testing framing, controls and solid steel base plate with recess for the tine assembly. Part No. AD 50096-092 -- interlocked safety fence to prevent inadvertent intrusion by personnel into the drop zone. Part No. AD50096-03 -- Expanded imnpact zone -- expands standard 48"x30" (10 sq. ft.) to 48" x 72" (24 sq. ft.) Part No. AD 50096-04 -- Custom holding fixture for support of rectangular packages as they are raised from 0" to 96". Note 22***** (0142)
