The contractor is to provide delivery services to transport clean textiles three (3)times per week from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, HD Division, 7180 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, to the James E. Van Zandt Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602; the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1111 East End Blvd., Willkes-Barre, PA 18711; and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1400 Black Horse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320; and return soiled textiles for laundry processing three (3) times per week to the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, HD Division, for the period October 1, 1998, through September 30, 1999. There is one (1) one-year renewal option. The contractor will be responsible to deliver and exchange approximately 2,500 pounds of clean textiles to Altoona; approximately 7,500 pounds of clean textiles to Wilkes-Barre; and approximately 10,000 pounds of clean textiles to Coatesville; and return approximately 20,000 pounds of soiled textiles to Pittsburgh for processing. The distance between the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, HD Division, and the delivery sites is estimated as follows: Altoona -- 90 miles each one way trip; Wilkes-Barre -- 300 miles each one way trip; and Coatesville -- 256 miles each one way trip. The contractor must furnish legally licensed semi truck drivers competent in over the road driving and maneuvering of tractor trailers. The contractor is responsible for furnishing two (2) tractors and four (4)covered trailers (45-foot length) suitable for textile deliveries. The trailers furnished must be capable of accommodating sanitizing procedures in accordance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. The trailers must be equipped with suitable straps to secure each load with a rollup door which can be locked. One trailer will be placed at Wilkes-Barre and one trailer will be placed at Coatesville and exchanged upon each shipment or delivery of clean textiles. Altoona will require a tailgate delivery. The semi tractor-trailer truck drivers must meet all Federal, State, and local legal requirements. A Pennsylvania PUC permit is required and must be obtained by contractor prior to 10/1/98 start date. Estimated solicitation issue date is 7/2/98.
