99 -- FABRICATE AND TEST FUSED SILICA LENSES SOL RFP549-7-98 DUE 091698 POC Peter W. Sozanski, Contracting Officer, TEL. (617) 495-7376, FAX (617) 496-7692 email: psozanski@cfa.harvard.edu The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires the fabrication, test, and delivery of two (2) fused silica lenses, designated Lens 1 and Lens 2. Lens 1 will be bi-convex and will be 28.2 inches in diameter. The radii of curvature of the two surfaces will be 67.74 +/-0.05 inches and 128.62 +/-0.12 inches. The central thickness of Lens 1 will be 3.0 inches. Lens 2 will be concave- convex and will be 27.094 inches in diameter. The radius of curvature of the concave surface will be 23.258 +/-0.010 inches, while the radius of curvature of the convex surface will be 57.41 +/-0.05 inches. The central thickness of Lens 2 will be 1.0 inch. All optical surfaces will be spherical. Low- and mid-spatial frequency will be half wave peak-to-valley or better (one wave = 6328 angstrom). Metrology of all convex surfaces must be obtained with test plates 10 inches in diameter or larger. Surface roughness will be 20 angstrom RMS or better. A MIL 40/20 scratch-dig specification will be achieved. The lenses will be delivered uncoated. SAO will supply the lens substrate material. The desired delivery date for the completed lenses is on or before 1 October 1999. Only written, fax (FAX #617/496-7692), or Internet (psozanski@cfa.harvard.edu) requests received directly from the requestor are acceptable. All responsible sources may submit an offer. No telephone requests for the solicitation package will be accepted. Posted 07/30/98 (I-SN230434). (0211)
