20170-4817 B -- UNSOLICITED PROPOSAL FOR DEEPWATER SUBSEA BLOWOUT PREVENT SOL
1435-01-CT-98-30960 POC J. Callas, (703) 787-1354 This announcement if
for information only. The Minerals Management Service intends to award
a non competitive procurement in response to an unsolicited proposal
from Sintef Industrial Management, Strindveien 4, N-7034 Trondheim,
Norway. The purpose of the project is to investigate deepwater subsea
blowout prevention (BOP) reliability for drilling rigs operating in the
Gulf of Mexico (GOM). It will compare BOP reliability in the GOM to
that of other areas such as the North Sea. The study will examine BOP
test data from approximately 100 new well drilled in the GOM. It will
also examine the maintenance programs used by each of the deepwater
drilling contractors. Analysis will focus on the loss of barriers in
the BOP stack due to failures. See Note 22. Posted 07/30/98
