The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) has a requirement for a multi-pieced assembly to be used as the "Top Box" structure for numerous focal plane instruments (MegaCam, MiniCam, IR Camera) being fabricated for the converted Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT). Our primary concern is to receive an assembly with precise features, that can be repetitively used to align focal plane instruments to the optical axis of the MMT Telescope. The Top Box will be a 2000# carbon steel weldment that has an envelope of 80" diameter by 18" tall. Manufacturing tolerances of .001" will require appropriate machine equipment, tooling, stress relieving, handling/assembly fixtures, and measurement/verification equipment. Delivery schedule to be three months ARO. Quotations will be evaluated based on price, past performance in furnishing similar items, and delivery. This requirement is 100% set-aside for Small Business. Standard Industrial Classification code is 3441; size 500 employees.
