Franklin Miles, 703.280.8412 E-MAIL: click here to e-mail the point of
contact, trobins3@email.usps.gov. The U.S. Postal Service is seeking
a material handling system to process large packages within Bulk Mail
Centers (BMC) and other USPS mail processing facilities. The proposed
systems should be based on deployed systems that are currently in
operation. The product that is to be processed on the system is
referred to as Non-Machinable Outsides (NMO). Trayed letter mail and
trayed flats are part of this product. This product contains all
package types with a large variance in surface types, e.g., plastics,
material, canvas, cardboard, etc. The system should be a complete
solution covering in-feed, induction, sorter, run-out and take-away
sections. Many products that enter the system have been labeled with
bar code symbols (BCS) of the ZIP Code, which can be used to sort the
products. Robotics is an option for distribution. Interested parties
should submit information to the attention of Tammi Robinson at USPS
Automation Purchasing, 8403 Lee Highway, Merrifield, Virginia,
22082-8150 within 30 days of this notice. Posted 08/05/98 (W-SN233215).
