via, bandy1@llnl.gov. The University of California, Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, Livermore, CA, requests expressions of interest
from firms capable of the design, fabrication and installation of a
fully self-contained system for handling transuranic wastes. This
system will be used for repackaging the waste from existing containers
into smaller containers. The system will consist of a stainless steel
processing chamber with a volume of approximately 12,500 cubic feet.
It will include HEPA filter systems, a custom, movable and
reconfigurable exhaust hood, material handling equipment, a glove box
and a video surveillance system. Adjacent to and integral with the
processing chamber will be approximately 700 square feet of air locks
and process control room areas. The unit will be installed in an
existing facility but the design should be such that it could be
relocated into another facility with a minimum of demolition or
disassembly. The value of the entire system is estimated to be between
$1 million and $2 million. Firms expressing interest must have
engineering and management staffs experienced in the design and
manufacture of large HEPA systems, large stainless steel chambers with
entrance and exit portals, and material handling systems. The
Laboratory may conduct interviews by telephone or in person to
determine the qualifications of the firms expressing interest. Firms
considered qualified may be solicited for proposals for the system.
Selection of a firm for the project will most likely be done on a best
value basis using the experience of the firm's personnel, its
performance on related projects and, perhaps, some form of pricing
objectives given a scope of work provided by the Laboratory. Interested
firms should submit basic information about themselves and their
business to Tom Bandy on or before 8/15/98. Firms responding to this
announcement which fail to provide the required information will not be
considered for inclusion into any resulting source list. Facsimile and
telephone responses will not be accepted. This notice is to assist the
University in determining the potential for competition; no
solicitation is currently available. Posted 08/05/98 (W-SN233013).
