Christine Bernosky, cbernos@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC
currently has a requirement for production quantities of the 84mm High
Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) 502 round in support of the Multi-Role
Anti-Armor Anti-Personnel Weapon System (MAAWS). The HEDP 502 round
must be fully compatible with the Bofors M3 Carl Gustaf recoilless
rifle, a shoulder-fired lightweight, reusable, one-man portable system.
The HEDP 502 round must have the capability to defeat field/urban
fortifications, earth and timber bunkers, and standard construction
buildings. The round must be capable of being rigged for airborne and
submersible operations in accordance with existing service procedures.
The round must be sufficiently rigged to remain safe, operational, and
effective following exposure to the rigors normally associated with
military operations, including air delivery and salt water submersion.
The round must meet U.S. safety and performance requirements. The HEDP
502 round will be acquired in a basic contract action and one option
year. A total quantity of 3,425 HEDP 502 rounds will be procured, with
a basic quantity of 2,660 and an option quantity of 765. Delivery for
the basic quantity is required by Sep 2000, and delivery for the
option quantity is required by Sep 2001. TACOM-ARDEC contemplates this
action based on Other Than Full and Open Competition based on the
authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), as implemented by FAR 6.302-1, Only
One Responsible Source, as the agency s minimum needs can only be
satisfied by the unique supplies available from Bofors, Sweden. For
