Equipment (PSE) for the F/A-18 aircraft consisting of the following
item: (3) Electro-Optical Sensor Unit Handling Bars (Part Number to be
determined). This item is a Weapon Replaceable Assembly removal and
replacement tool specifically for the removal and replacement of the
Advanced Tactical Forward Looking Infrared Radar (ATFLIR)
Electro-Optical Sensor Unit (EOSU) from the Roll Drive Unit.
Additionally, technical services will be required to ensure that the
PSE is in a Ready for Issue condition for the entire duration of the
F/A-18 Operations Evaluation (OPEVAL). The contractor must be familiar
with the F/A-18, the equipment (ATFLIR), the work to be performed and
the compatibility of this equipment to other systems on the aircraft
and the carrier. The Boeing Company, St. Louis, MO, as the designer,
developer and sole manufacturer of the F/A-18 aircraft is the only firm
that possesses the necessary technical knowledge and proprietary source
data with regard to design, operations, maintenance and systems
integration requirements of the PSE to meet the Goverment's OPEVAL date
of November 1999. Firms that recognize and produce the required item
are encouraged to identify themselves. All responsible sources may
submit a proposal which may be considered by the Government in
determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. A
determination by the Government not to open the requirement to
competition based on this notice is solely within the discretion of the
