Office of Acquisition and Grants, 1710 GWYNN OAK AVENUE, BALTIMORE, MD, 21207-5279

70 -- OFF-THE-SHELF ADVANCED FUNCTION PRESENTATION NOTICE FORMATTING SOFT WARE DUE 091498 POC MARY BIDDLE, 410-965-9588 WEB: Download Solicitation when/if available, http://www.ssa.gov/oag. E-MAIL: Contracting Officer, SSA/OAG, MARY.BIDDLE@ssa.gov. The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking to identify vendors who can provide commercially available off- the-shelf integrated Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) notice formatting software. SSA sends its customers over 240 million notices annually. While the majority of notices are produced by several different automated mainframe notice systems, a significant number of notices are produced in some manual or semi-automated fashion that requires employee intervention using numerous non-integrated systems. All SSA notices are currently formatted using Xerox-print resources and are printed on Xerox printers or contracted out for printing. SSA has made an Agency-level decision to use AFP as the standard for formatting and printing its notices. The AFP formatting software solution must be capable of generating over fifty different notice types. It must handle input from up to fifteen separate notice generation systems and accept input records containing paragraph identifiers and fill-in values. The AFP notice formatting software that SSA is seeking should include the following feature/capabilities: (1) The solution must be an off-the-shelf and field-proven one that is commercially available; (2) The solution must run/operate in a mainframe OS/390 environment; (3) The solution must not require changes to existing operating system, hardware or application software in use at SSA; (4) The solution must be Year 2000 compliant; (5) The solution must provide features such as fixed and proportional fonts, variable line spacing, bar coding, overlays, etc.; (6) The solution should provide for reserved formatted areas for signature, logo and/or heading graphics; (7) The solution must support multiple languages, but at a minimum must support English and Spanish; (8) The solution must allow for notice formatting using paragraph numbers and/or fill-in information from centralized language data banks; and (9) The solution should provide for multiple fill-in identifiers and also for fill- ins within fill-ins. This is a request for vendor product information and not a Request for Proposal (RFP). Respondents should refer to MB-98B. Interested FSS schedule and non-FSS schedule vendors who can furnish the required software are invited to submit in writing a substantial statement clearly demonstrating comparable features/capabilities of software offered, substantiated by technical data brochures, GSA Schedule Contract Numbers (if applicable). No cost or pricing data is required or requested. The Government does not intend to pay for any information provided. Written responses must be received in this office 15 calendar days after publication of this notice. Posted 08/26/98 (D-SN242339). (0238)
