The Navy intends to award an interim sole source contract to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Fairchild Aircraft Incorporated in the amount of $1.5M for phased maintenance of the Navy's seven C-26 aircraft until a seven year competitive contract is awarded in mid FY99. The aircraft were excessed from the Air Force inventory, and Fairchild is the only complete source of historical, development, design, manufacturing, modifications, test and flight certification data for the aircraft and is, therefore, the only source capable of providing the interim short-term support.
