The CMB will store information such as: name plate identification; maintenance information; repair data; shelf life and warranty. The CMB will replace the current name plate/paper tag currently associated with the government's acceptance of a part. The use of a Reader/Writer will be necessary to enter, update and display CMB information. This notice identifies the Navy's intention and asks for comment on this technology insertion. Specifically: on the location of the CMBs and how you would affix the CMBs, assuming that fleet maintenance personnel must access the CMB to update/retrieve information. The stored information should include as a minimum: Part Number; Serial Number; Cage Codes; DUNS Number; Contract Number, etc. The CMB Specifications are as follows: Size: Maximum Diameter: 11mm; Maximum Height: 3 mm; and Maximum Weight: 4 gm. Environmental Requirements: Operating Temperatures of -40 to 180 degrees F; Corrosion Resistance; Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP): 5.8, 26.7, 55.0 k V/m; Radiation (X, G & UV) 100,000 Rads; and Humidity 5-95% Non-condensing. Life Expectancy: Mimimum read write cycles 100 M and Minimum data retention 50 years. The reader/Writer is identified as: Button Reader, part number RBRK5, 512K (series 2 reader) with 4 line graphic, back lit display, mini button reader with a button finger tip reader coiled extension and stero plug. Both the Reader/Writer and CMB must run on a 486 computer or better and be IT21 compliant. The software upon which the Reader/Writer operates is developed and maintained by NAWCAD Patuxent River ILS Compency 3.6. The current version of the software runs on an IBM compatible 486 or better and running on Windows 95 or NT40. The only known manufacturer of the Reader/Writer and CMBs is: MacSema Inc., Bend, OR 97701-4346. Their web site is: hhttp://www.macsema.com.
