The Environmental Protection Agency has a requirement for a semi-volatile organic aerosol sampler system to consist of a cylone, a fitting to connect two denuders in parallel, 2-100 lpm denuders, housing to maintain denuders at ambient 5 C, filter holder, 2-XAD holders, 2-filter holders, fitting to connect XAD holders to flow controller, one flow controller and one pump, valves to allow computer operation of either denuder system, data system to record output of flow controller, ambient and denuder temperatures and relay to start the pump. Inlet: cyclone with 50% cutpoint 2.5 m at 100 liters/minute. Denuder: 8 channel etched glass denuder with 1mm channel, 52mm OD, total length 650mm with etched of 600mm centered in denuder. Flow rate through each denuder is 100 liters/minute. Each denuder to be coated with XAD microresin. Denuder housing: sufficient in size to contain two denuders, filter and XAD holders and maintain temperature within 5 C of ambient. Flow controllers and pump: system to consist of flow controller and pump. Flow controller and pump must maintain flow within 10% of 100 liters/minute under with ambient temperature between -20 to 40 C. If possible a flow controller based on the volumetric fow at ambient temeprature and pressure is preferred. System to be sized to collected ambient air sample of PM2.5 for 24 hours at up to 50 g/m3. Sample flow is 100 liters/minute through cyclone and denuder, 3 m Zefluor, quartz, or Teflon coated quartz filter (diameter 9cm), and bed of XAD2. XAD2 bed must be sufficient to trap naphthalene under above conditions. Flow controller and pump to be inclosed in weather protected housing. Data acquisition system: sensors for monitoring and storing ambient and denuder temperature, outputs from mass flow meter controller, vacuum before flow controller, time of day, and relay to turn pump system on and off. Data to be recorder with data acquisition system. The Environmental Protection Agency anticipates an award of a fixed price purchase order using Simplified Acquistion Procedures. This procurement is a total small business set aside.
