NASA/LeRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for Deposit coatings using metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) of Si-doped and undoped precursor polymers on Ni-Nicolan cermaic fibers tows, 1 lot. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LeRC intends to purchase the items from Advanced Technology Material, Inc. located in Danbury, CT. ATMI has a unique and proprietary capability in the production of coating Hi-Nicalon fiber tows by MOCVD using preceramic polymers, and is able to retain >80% fiber strength. Fiber tows have been coated without bridging of filaments, a necessary requirement to maintain tow handleability and avert fiber breakage. ATMI is collaborating with the University of Pennsylvania to develop unique precursors to boron nitride and doped boron nitride. The data generated under this contract will be compared with an existing data base, and needs to be consistent with previously generated data.
