context of the United States Government support to the Republic of
Mozambique, the National Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DNEP) is
planning to execute a Host Country Contract financed by the United
States Agency for International Development (USAID) for the
construction/rehabilitation of 240 kilometers of a gravel road from
Gorongosa to Caia in Sofala province. The road consist of six sections
totaling 35 km of existing tarred road, seven sections totaling 140 km
of existing road formation only and 65 km requiring new road
construction. In addition there are 28 bridges of which 13 are nearly
complete, 11 need reconstruction and 4 are new bridges. The
mobilization is planned to start in April 1999 and the work is planned
to start in June 1999. A pre-qualification questionnaire will be
issued no earlier than ten (10) days from the date of publishing of
this notice. The deadline for receipt of Pre-qualification
Questionnaires is December 30, 1998. Interested companies must pay a
non- refundablefee of US$ 50 if they request a hard copy. If they
download it off the Internet no payment is required. The fee is payable
at DNEP, Mozambique Avenue 1125, Maputo, Mozambique. Those firms who
previously submitted Pre-qualification documents will be advised in
writing of the exact requirements expected from them in this
Pre-qualification process. Pre-qualification is subject to USAID s
requirement that if there is adequate competition among U.S. firms,
they alone will be considered. If there is no adequate competition
among U.S. firms Bids from all pre-qualified firms will be treated
equal, regardless of an eligible nationality. The preferred method of
distribution of USAID procurement information is via the Internet or by
request of a solicitation on a 3.5 floppy disk (WordPerfect 5.1/5.2
format). This CBD notice can be reviewed and downloaded using the
Agency Web Site. The solicitation can be downloaded from the Agency Web

Solicitations . Receipt of the solicitations through the INTERNET must
be confirmed by written notification to the contact person noted
