sshin@hq.nasa.gov. This synopsis serves to notify interested parties of
an Industry Briefing on an anticipated procurement for the consolidated
administration of the Summer High School Apprenticeship Program (SHARP)
and SHARP PLUS on December 16, 1998, from 9 am to 11 am. The SHARP
program was established in 1980. It was instituted with the goal of
fostering interest in math and science amongst high school students
from groups that tended to be under represented in these fields. In
this program, students were selected and matched with active
researchers who mentored and guided them through an intense eight week
apprenticeship period. Based upon the success of SHARP, NASA broadened
the scope by establishing SHARP PLUS in 1993. SHARP PLUS provides
students who do not live within commuting distance of a NASA center, an
opportunity to participate in research experiences with a selected
university or company during a residential eight week apprenticeship
program. Each year, over five hundred students are sponsored under
theseprograms. Ensuring the continuing success of these programs
requires significant coordination with NASA Headquarters and its ten
centers, as well as with all the participating universities and
companies. Interested parties must provide a notice of intent to attend
the conference with a listing of attendees, the name of their company,
address, e-mail, and phone number. Due to space constraints, the
Government reserves the right to limit the number of attendees. The
point of contact for this briefing will be Ms. Sherri McGee. The list
of attendees must be forwarded to Ms. Sherri McGee via e-mail at
amcgee@mail.hq.nasa.gov. In addition to the Industry Briefing,
interested parties may be provided access to a procurement library that
contains reference material associated with the respective programs on
or about December 16, 1998. The industry briefing on December 16,
1998, is being provided in an effort to assist interested parties
understand the nature and scope of the programs. After the briefing,
interested parties will be notified by an amendment to this synopsis of
a request for the submission of a capability statement. This briefing
will be conducted as part of a market survey to assist NASA in
determining the appropriate level of competition for this anticipated
procurement, i.e., 8(a) competition, small business set aside, or full
and open competition with subcontracting goals. All questions should
be directed to Ms. Sherri McGee by e-mail at amcgee@mail.hq.nasa.gov or
by telephone at 202-358-1110. Posted 12/02/98 (D-SN276395). (0336) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0079 19981204\U-0002.SOL)
