The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services has a requirement for Ruggedized Hand-Held Computers having the following salient characteristics: All hardware must be rugged, water-proof, dirt resistant, droppable from a height of 5 feet, and shock-resistant. The hardware must also be Programmable with the following technical features: 100% Intel CPU-compatible; 2 MB RAM for data storage; MS-DOS 5.0 or better operating system; KERMIT and XMODEM file transfer protocols. The hardware must have: two PC compatible RS232 ports; PCMCIA support; Day-Long battery life; Weigh 2 lbs or less; 16 line by 25 character display that is high-contrast, CGA compatible, internal back light, adjustable contrast and multi-font mode support.
