Coast Guard's new High Speed Skimmers, (HSS).Two forty-foot lengths of the boom will be connected to the HSS at one end and to two sections (28 feet) of the U. S. Coast Guard's standard outrigger at the opposite end creating an approximate angle of 15.5 degrees to the direction of flow. The boom will be used to widen sweep width of the HSS by deflecting spilled oil to the skimmers' inlet at speeds from one to six knots.
