A -- MEMBRANES TO BE USED IN GRAYWATER TREATMENT SOL N00167-99-SS-0006 POC C. Joan Miles, (301) 227-1159, Catherine Lynn Rowe, (301) 227-1100 The Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (CDNSWC) is seeking sources with industry for tubular membrane modules to be used for processing shipboard graywater (waste that is discharged from laundry, shower, and galley/scullery areas) abroad U.S. Navy ships. Membrane modules must meet the following criteria: (1) must exhibit chemical compatibility with graywater which also includes detergents, oxidizers, and sea water, and membrane cleaners that may contain acids and bases; (2) must be capable of processing wastewater streams with up to 3% solids; (3) must be capable of operating at pressures of 85 psi; and (4) must be able to withstand an operating temperature of 20 to 60 degrees Celcius. The following information is also requested regarding membrane module; configuration, nominal surface area; available membranes (ie, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration); weight of module (drained); tube (feed/concentrate) side hold-up volume, shell (permeate) side hold-up volume; maximum operating pressures; recommended feed flowrate; minimum concentrate pressure; net membrane back pressure; feed pH range (continuous operation); feed pH range (clearing: <1 hour at 59 degrees Celcius); modecular weight cut-off (MWCO); module dimensions and materials of construction; and module cost. A summary of agents/contanimants which could potentially interfere with the operation and performance of the membrane is also requested.
