The following is the description in its entirety: This is a combined
synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with
the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional
information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the
only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written
solicitation will not be issued. The solicitation document and
incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal
Acquisition Circular 97-01. Item #1: Fiber optic fusion splicer iaw
following specs: Fiber type: singlemode, multi-mode, dispersion
shifted, Erbium doped. Buffer diam. capability: 160 micron, 250 micron,
900 micron. Fiber diam capability: 80 micron, 125 micron. Capability to
splice dissimilar diam. fiber. (80 micron to 125 micron). Singlemode
splice loss: less than or equal to 0.02 dB. Multimode splice loss: less
than or equial to 0.01 dB. Splice time: less than or equal to 50
seconds. Program capability to make splices with intentional
attenuation, from 0 to 15 dB. Program capability to make fiber tapers.
Built in splice protector heater. Protective travel case included.
Operating temp: 0 to 40 degrees C. Operating humidity: 0 to 95%.
Weight: less than or equal to 8 kilograms. Cleave angle alarm:
programmable. Provision at 52.212-1, Instructions to
Offerors-Commercial items, applies to this acquisition. The SIC Code is
3577 and the small business size standard is 1000 employees. Any
company that believes it has the capability to meet the Government's
minimum requirements is invited to submit technical/cost literature for
Government evaluation. All proposals from responsible sources will be
