Contracting Division, Attn: AMSRL-CS-PR, 2800 Powder Mill Road,
Adelphi, Maryland 20783-1197 A -- FY 1999-2000 ARL BAA AMENDMENT 1 SOL DAAD17-99-R-ARL-BAA POC
Shirley Harvey, BAA Coordinator, (301) 394-2889, sharvey@arl.mil This
synopsis modifies the previous synopsis published on 23 July 1998. FY
1999-2000 ARL Broad Agency Announcement -- Amendment 1 -- This synopsis
is an additional topic to the Sensors & Electron Devices Directorate
(SEDD). The amendment will be available on the ARL BAA homepage
(http://w3.arl.mil/contracts/99arlbaa.htm), Topic Number 2.55 -- Low
Cost Alkaline Power Sources. The Sensors and Electron Devices
Directorate is seeking proposals for research and development of
improved zinc/alkaline/manganese dioxide power sources (primary or
rechargeable) for Army electronics applications. Alkaline battery
technology is attractive because of the intrinsic cost, safety and
environmental benefits. Topics of interest include cell and battery
materials, cell and battery design, chargers (rechargeable systems),
electronics and processing methods. Significant improvements in energy
density, power density, storability, temperature range of operation
and cycle life (rechargeable systems) are desired. Hardened cell and
battery prototypes capable of shipment and six months storage are
required as proof of principle. Charger prototypes are also required
for rechargeable systems. The technical point of contact for the above
mentioned topic is Don Foster (301) 721-3429. All responsible sources
may submit a bid or proposal which will be considered by the Agency.
No telephone requests will be honored. Posted 01/22/99 (W-SN290496).
