NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ)972-18550-709 for 550 EACH RADIOSONDE, PVT MODEL TYPE 1548-720 AND 1 EACH, E-SWITCH ANTENNA CONTROL COMPATIBLE WITH THE NASA GSFC VIZ W-9000 GROUND SYSTEM. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from SIPPICAN, INC.,VIZ Meteorological System Group, Suite 307, 525 Plymouth Rd., Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. Sippican Inc.,VIZ Meteorological System Group is the only vendor that offers a full code correlated system and the capability to access the GPS satellite. Other vendor radiosondes do not work with the NASA-owned VIZ Manufacturing Co. GPS W-9000 ground equipment. Sippican, Inc., can meet the requirements for accurate wind and relative humidity data for the TRMM Research effort in a timely manner. Therefore, it is recommended that equipment be purchased only from Sippican, Inc. Delivery is requested on or before May 15, 1999. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
