Administration (NASA) intends to release an Announcement of Opportunity
(AO) for the Lightweight Synthetic Aperture Radar (LightSAR) on or
about March 4, with proposals due on or about May 3, 1999. The LightSAR
Program intends to use innovative management and streamlined
implementation approaches to perform unique Earth Science research from
low-Earth orbit. This solicitation is open to all categories of
organizations, including educational institutions, industry, nonprofit
institutions, NASA Field Centers (including JPL), FFRDCs, and other
governmental agencies. A Preproposal Conference will be held on March
18, 1999, at the Crystal City Sheraton Hotel, Arlington, Virginia, from
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The AO will be available electronically on the
release date, via the Internet at the ESE "Home Page" at
"http://www.earth.nasa.gov/nra/current/" under Research Opportunities
or via anonymous ftp at ftp.hq.nasa.gov/pub/ese. A paper copy will be
available to those who do not have access to Internet by calling (202)
