the contractor to repair and upgrade a 60/10 ton bridge crane located
in the Engine Test Facility-A Plant, Building 882, Arnold Engineering
Development Center, Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The crane is
manufactured by Whiting Corporation and has one trolley, with a main
hoist rated at 60 tons and an auxiliary hoist rated at 10 tons. The
crane handles loads near the rated capacity of the hoists within close
confinements. The contractor is to upgrade the existing crane to
enhance performance and reliability as well as to meet current code
requirements. The specification requires the contractor to perform the
following tasks: replace the motors, brakes, hoist ropes, and motor
controls for the bridge, trolley, and two hoists; remove the pendant
control assembly from the existing control cab and install a seated
control unit for all crane functions; replace the trolley slide wire
system with a festoon cable system, and install a new main power
electrification system. Related work includes asbestos abatement of the
existing hoist brake pads. The performance period shall be 240 calendar
days following receipt of a written notice of contract award. Any
responsible small business firm responding to this notice may submit an
offer which shall be considered. Foreign participation is authorized.
Any firm responding to this notice should do so in writing and should
indicate whether or not it is a small business and whether or not it is
a small disadvantaged business. The estimated date for the release of
the solicitation is 15 May 1999. The solicitation will be made
