To provide a method by which the Weapon Systems and Technology Team can obtain manufacturing support in the research and development of tank ammunition kinetic energy (KE) cartridges. Items to be produced will be in the medium (mainly, but not limited to 25mm, 40mm and 45mm)and large calibers (mainly, but not limited to 105mm, 120mm and 140mm). Specifically, this is to include (but not limited to) the fabrication of sabots, fins, windshields, windshield tips, cartridge cases, cartridge case bases, primer assemblies, penetrators and propellant. Work will also include the assembly of these components into a cartridge design provided by the government. The government will furnish penetrators when the design requires that they be manufactured from depleted uranium (DU). (This is a hazardous item contract). Other objectives are access to engineering drafting, design and analsis support and other manufacturing capability such as fabrication of bench test hardware and equipment.
