875-6990 The U.S. Department of State (DoS), Office of Acquisition,
proposes a sole source procurement from Motorola, Inc., Hanover,
Maryland, for acquisition of various Land Mobile Radio (LMR)equipment
and related accessories, for the Department's wireless communications
involving diplomatic security, regional functions, UN General Assembly
functions, and other purposes. The contract will be an indefinite
quantity/indefinite delivery type, with a period of performance of a
base year and four option years. LMR equipment, which includes base
stations, tone remotes, receivers, mobile radios, and handhelds, must
have Mobile Data Communication (MDC) signaling, Digital Encryption
Standard (DES) capability, UHF/VHF, and narrow bandwidth 12.5/25KHz
programmable. The equipment must also be digital encryption standard
capable with APCO 25/Common Air Interface protocols, and capable to be
coupled with MDC signaling, to function as a very robust and reliable
communications system for overseas and domestic wireless needs.
Currently, the DoS has a wireless infrastructure built on MDC, DES,
UHF/VHF, at narrow bandwidth 12.5/25KHz, manufactured by Motorola. The
proposed procurement action is a follow-on to the existing contract
with Motorola for acquisition of LMR equipment which is to be added to
the Government's existing equipment. The DoS intends to issue a
solicitation package on or about August 26, 1999. Interested firms may
