about the cost and availability of a U.S. flag vessel(s) to perform
services described below. Currently, the M/V KELLIE CHOUEST is
performing this service. The final option period for the KELLIE CHOUEST
will expire in may 2000. The vessel will normally operate in the U.S.
West Coast area and be home-ported in San Diego, CA. The contractor
will provide technical and industrial support to the Navy for the
operation of a contractor provided NAVSEA-certified, (man-rated) Deep
Submergence Elevator Support Ship whose primary mission is to launch
and recover Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles (DSRV. Vessel will also be
used to support an Advanced Seal Delivery System (ASDS). Vessel will
also be required to perform such functions as Special Warfare exercise
missions surface support, submarine sea trial/deep dive escort, mine
recovery operations (inert mines only), unmanned vehicle (UMV)
operations, act as a mother ship for Submarine Rescue Chamber (SRC)
operations, and launch and recovery of the ASDS. Period of charter is
about two and one-half years commencing May/June 2000.
