NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for balances to weigh lunar and Antarctic meteorite samples with the following specifications: 1)8 dual range: approximately 0 -- 500g at .001g readability; up to about 2000g at .01g readability; 2) 2 single range: (a) 1 medium capacity (5000-6000g) and 0.01g readability and (b) 1 high capacity, 12,000g with 0.1g readability; 3) Ability to remote weighing cell from electronics; 4) Meet our requirement for contamination control by having an all-aluminum or all-stainless steel case. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from Sartorius Corporation because they are the only known source capable of meeting all of the above NASA's specifications of manufacture. Interested firms have 14 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/ capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 14 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
