The SPAWAR Systems Center Charleston intends to award a $6.8 million Research and Development (R&D) sole-source contract to Maxygen, Incorporated in support of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) BWD program. Maxygen, Inc. will develop Bacillus spore aerosols as vaccine delivery vehicles utilizing their proprietary gene-shuffling technology. Maxygen, Inc. is the only source capable of performing this work because of the expertise in this field. This action is a result of an unsolicited proposal.
