E-MAIL: Donald L. Ward, donald.l.ward1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for 50, 1553 PCMCIA Cards. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from ILC Data Device Corporation. The ILC/DDC PCMCIA 1553 Card was chosen for installation in the IBM Thinkpad 760XD after extensive market study. The test cards passed extensive, flight certification tests including, heat, toxic gas, radiation tests, etc. The 1553 cards made by ILC/DDC are compatible to the IBM 760XD, the ISS MDMs and the Solaris Operating System. Only the ILC/DDC 1553 PCMCIA cards meet all the criteria for use in the laptop and the ISS environment. The project has purchased over 100 of these cards and must purchase the identical card for use in the flight laptops for flights 4A and subsequent. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 7 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 7 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
