The USDA Agricultural Research Service in Albany, Ca. has a requirement for a laboratory micro fraction collection robot system. The robot system will allow on-line collection of fraction eluting from capillary/nano LC or CE/CECsystems and can handle extremely small amounts of sample with extremely high reproducibility. The robot system consists of the following: 3 axis x,y&z driven by stepper motors, software & table adapter, additional table adapter, micro dosage unit, relays/interlock board, manual control unit, pipetting software & table. Our requirements are that the system handles effluent deposition of less than 1uL per fraction. That it is programmable to deposit matrix and/or sample fractions onto Bruker style MALDI targets, and that the positioning of the deposition is precise, in three dimensions, to less than 5um. Additionally, the system must be capable of transferring volumes of 0.5uL from 96 well micro titer plates onto Bruker style MALDI targets.
