Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to
procure on a sole-source basis, a Fluorescent Imaging Workstation
(Model Q550CW) from Leica, Inc. The NCI investigators are involved with
the development of mouse models for various types of cancer. The
fluorescent imaging workstation shall allow the investigators to
observe infected living cells in culture, and capture high-resolution
images of the infected cells at various stages of analysis. The
required system shall have the following features: shall allow high
resolution images of live cells (expressing GFP) to be captured while
an analysis is being performed; shall have high light sensitivity, and
provide the capability to detect GFP positive cells whose fluorescence
cannot be seen by the human eye; shall allow high magnification, high
resolution, fluorescent images to be captured after the cells or tissue
sections have been stained with antibodies; in addition to high
sensitivity/resolution the system shall be fully compatible and work
with an existing, Government-owned, Leica DM IRB HC V S100 SLF Inverted
Fluorescent Microscope; additionally, the system software shall allow
FISH, CGH, and AcapS (Automatic Capture Sequence) applications. The
Contractor shall provide a Year 2000 Warranty for each hardware,
software and firmware product delivered. The NCI invetigators believe
that the aforementioned instrument and organization is the only source
that can satisfy the requirements. This is not a request for
competitive quotation, however, if any interested party believes it can
meet the aobve requirement, they may submit a statement of
capabilities. Information furnished must be in writing and must contain
sufficient detail, to allow NCI to determine if the party can meet the
requirement. Capability statements must be received in the Contracts
Office by 2:00 PM EST on September 24, 1999. If you have any question,

determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract
based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of
the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the
purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
