TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES VENDOR CONFERENCE The Pentagon Renovation Program is performing an extensive renovation of the Pentagon building, services, and facilities. The renovation will require, among other changes, that new communications facilities be designed, developed, and implemented for the electronic distribution of telecommunications services. The renovation program will affect the space previously allocated for telecommunications services. The Pentagon currently has a single telecommunications Point of Presence (POP) for interconnect of commercial carrier circuits with internal Pentagon building circuits. In preparation for the renovation of the area were the current POP is located, it is necessary to establish a new location as a POP and begin the transfer of circuits. To achieve increased reliability and enhance survivability, the Information Management and Telecommunications (IM&T) will establish two POP locations, a North POP in the general purpose switch room and a South POP in renovated Wedge 1. All providers of telecommunications service to renovated portions of the Pentagon will be directed by the Government to terminate their telecommunications equipment onto one of these two Government-owned POPs/Main Distribution Frames (MDFs). From the POP/MDF, the Government distribution will be used to provide telecommunications service throughout the renovated Pentagon. The Project Manager, IM&T invites telecommunications service providers to a Vendor Conference to discuss current plans for relocating POP equipment and services, space allocation and environment, and other associated issues. The Vendor Conference is scheduled for 28 Sep 1999 at 1:00 PM at the Pentagon Renovation Program Office, 100 Boundary Channel Drive, Arlington, VA 22202.
