The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC) in conjunction with PM Small Arms intends to issue a Sole Source contract to Alliant Techsystems Inc., Hopkins, MN to conduct the Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) Program Definition and Risk Reduction (PD&RR) effort. The PD&RR phase for the OICW will employ Simulation and Modeling for Acquisition, Requirements and Training (SMART). This phase will develop a validated synthetic environment to integrate modeled OICW components and optionally selected high risk hardware components into design configurations and test these configurations for a full system solution; develop a producible virtual OICW prototype design configuration that accomplishes the key OICW performance requirements; and develop a first generation OICW trainer and strategy fundamentally based upon and extracted from the developmental and test environment of the synthetic environment.
