COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 1,1999 PSA#2445A -- PUBLIC WORKSHOP -- DARPA MICRO ADAPTIVE FLOW CONTROL PROGRAM
Special Notice 99-15: This Notice, issued pursuant to the FAR at
15.210, announces a "Workshop on Micro Adaptive Flow Control
Technologies to Military Applications" to be held at the Hilton
Alexandria Mark Center Hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday, 26 October & 27
1999. The Hotel is located at 5000 Seminary Rd., Alexandria, VA 22311.
A block of rooms at the Government per diem rate has been reserved at
the Hotel (Reservation Phone Number: 703-845-1010) through 7 October
1999. In order to receive this rate attendees must identify themselves
as participants in the "MAFC Workshop." There is no registration fee
required for attendance; however, there will be a nominal charge for a
buffet luncheon and snacks to be served at the meeting. This Workshop
will be a precursor to a DARPA Broad Agency Announcement (BAA), to be
issued pursuant to the FAR at 35.016, entitled "Micro Adaptive Flow
Control Technologies to Military Applications" in the period
immediately following this Workshop. The BAA will solicit white papers
and then proposals for funded programs in adaptive flow control and
their applications to military systems. The Workshop will be held over
two full-day sessions. A detailed agenda for the first session will be
provided at the Workshop. The first session will be held in the Terrace
Room of the Hotel on 26 October. In order to encourage the widest
possible participation from industry, academia and government
researchers, the meeting will be a free and open exchange of
information on the state-of-the-art on actuators, sensors, and concepts
for flow control applications. An overview of the current DARPA-funded
MAFC activities will be presented to establish baseline capabilities
and assure there will be no duplication of current activities. There
will also be a summary plenary session for discussion and interchange
of both technical and programmatic information. The second session, to
be held on Wednesday, 27 October in the Executive Center of the
Hilton, will provide an opportunity for up to 32 individual 15-minute
presentations by industry, university, and federal research
laboratories to discuss unique or proprietary information with a small
panel of government personnel. These private reviews will be held for
the purpose of informing DARPA of special capabilities, unique
insight, and/or undocumented changes in the state-of-the-art in MAFC
actuators, systems, and applications. Within the limitations of time
and space, every effort will be made to accommodate any party wishing
to make a presentation. However, presentations will be scheduled on a
first come-first served basis through a timed and dated e-mail message
to Jack Suddreth at SRS Technologies at Jack.Suddreth@wg.srs.com;
phone, if necessary, at (703) 284-7786. The Workshop Chairman will be
Dr. Richard Wlezien, Program Manager, Micro Adaptive Flow Control
Program, Tactical Technology Office, Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency. Dr. Wlezien will respond only to general questions concerning
the Workshop. While Dr. Wlezien's phone number is 703-696-2377,
communication via e-mail is preferred at rwlezien@darpa.mil. Questions
of an administrative nature should be addressed to Jack Suddreth at
SRS Technologies. Posted 09/29/99 (W-SN386189). Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0667 19991001\SP-0005.MSC)
