The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science and Technology,
EM-50 in coordination with the DOE-Office of Environmental Restoration,
EM-40, is sponsoring through Fluor Daniel Fernald, Inc. (FDF), a prime
contractor to DOE, an Accelerated Site Technology Deployment Project
(ASTDP) at the Fernald Environmental Management Project, Fernald, Ohio.
The ASTDP intends to evaluate a mobile work platform to be used in
simplifying and improving the safety of the demolition of the previous
processing operations structures at the site. The ASTDP is seeking a
fully developed, mature technology with a history of successful
commercial application having the capability for remote (at least 50')
removal of pipe and conduit from elevations up to thirty (30) feet
above floor level. Needs include cutting/shearing of components with
and without controlled lowering of severed sections (maximum ten foot
lengths) to the floor and/or placement in a disposal/transport
container. The equipment should be able to cut piping (Schedule 40
carbon steel) ranging up to six inches in diameter covered with up to
two inches of insulation wrapped with aluminum. The equipment capable
of accessing and working inside a building needs to be highly mobile,
i.e., easily moved from one work location to another, with minimum
set-up time. To obtain information about the Fernald Environmental
Restoration Project and FDF visit web site http://www.fernald.gov/. To
