Darrell R. Matula, darrell.r.matula1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to
issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for production and delivery of two
lots of 250 units, each, of pyrotechnic initiators for the solid
rocket booster system for the Space Shuttle. The selected contractor
will establish and qualify its production and manufacturing operation
in accordance with the Government-furnished Statement of Work and Solid
Rocket Motor Initiator Design and Peroformance Specification. The
contractor must be a qualified source for the NASA Standard Initiator
in order to be considered a responsible source for manufacturing this
device. Interested firms have 10 days from the publication of this
synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact their
qualification/capabilities in order to determine which firms shall be
solicited. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using
FAR Part 12. This procurement is a total small business set-aside. See
Note 1. The SIC Code and Size Standard are SIC 2892 and 750 employees,
respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9. The
provisions and clauses in the RFP and model contract are those in
effect through FAC 97-14. All qualified responsible sources may submit
an offer which shall be considered by the agency. The anticipated
release date of the RFP is on or about October 29, 1999, with an
anticipated offer due date of on or about November 29, 1999. An
ombudsman has been appointed -- See Internet Note "B". The solicitation
and any documents related to this procurement will be available over
the Internet. These documents will be in Microsoft Office Suite (Word
6.0, Excel 5.0, PowerPoint 4.0) format and will reside on a World Wide
Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser
