The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate a sole-source modification to purchase order No. 40SBNB960065 with Clearwater Technical Services, 4 Alamanda Close, Lakeside, Yungaburra Q 4872, Australia for a continuation of development work on their "Beantown" Virtual World Software for manufacturing at NIST which was purchased in May 1999. The contractor will continue to develop user programming interfaces for this system for non-expert users to employ in generating working factory simulations from VRML models of devices and control system specifications for these devices, including integration into multi-device, multi-user virtual, real-time, virtual factory systems. This shall include the following: Procedures, supporting software, and documentation for: 1) Creating working interfaces between the virtual factory software and machine controllers from NML specifications of device behavior; 2) Creating working interfaces between the virtual factory software and VRML displays from VRML specifications of device model; 3) Providing support for interfaces, including downloadable locally-cached object specifications, for VRML displays native to multiple common hosts, including, but not limited to SGI Immersadesk, Unix Workstation, and PC. The period of performance for this modification will be from date of modification award through September 30, 2000. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. Written responses received by December 3, 1999 will be considered by the Government solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
