H -- DUAL-ENERGY X-RAY INSPECTION SYSTEM SOL DAAE30-00-R-0800 DUE 010500 POC Joyce Horn, Contract Specialist, 973-724-4340 WEB: US ARMY TACOM-ARDEC Procurement Network, http://procnet.pica.army.mil/cbd/SRCSgt/120119991/120119991.htm. E-MAIL: Joyce Horn, jhorn@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Armament, Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ is seeking potential sources who can design, develop and implement a dual-energy x-ray inspection system for production line quality assurance of hand grenade fuse bodies. These fuse bodies consist of a metal tube about 1/4 in. diameter, with walls 0.06 in. thick, packed with energetic material to a height of about 0.8 in. The top 0.2 in. of this 0.8 in. height is obscured because it is behind threads which have a nominal wall thickness of about 0.2 in. The tube/thread material is a die cast zinc alloy. The energetic material is about 60% barium chromate, 15% potassium perchlorate, 14% nickel and 11% zirconium. Energetic material level (height) and density (presence of voids) in the fuse body tube need to be measured with high accuracy, precision and at high throughput (rate of fuse production is about 2400/hr.). Interested firms should submit a detailed plan for design, development and implementation of a dual-energy x-ray system with realistic implementation timetable and cost estimate no later than 5 Jan 2000, to Commander, US Army TACOM-ARDEC, ATTN: AMSTA- AR-QAT-P, L. D'Aries, Bldg 908, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806. For technical questions please contact Lawrence D'Aries at (973) 724-4758 or dlaries@pica.army.mil. This synopsis is for information purposes only.
